“That Summer”
That summer, I was looking at the Himalayas from the city of Pokhara across the lake
Every day, I just looked at them
In the morning, a girl around 10 years old wearing a colorful sari came to sell them
I bought chickpea curry and naan
After I finished eating, I went down a little and bought takeout coffee at a cafe on the shore of Lake Phewa
On my usual bench, I smoked a rolled-up cigarette
In the shade of trees whose names I don’t know, there was no wind, but it was cool
What am I doing?
Even when I ask myself that, I can’t think of an answer
That summer, I was looking at the Himalayas from the city of Pokhara across the lake

あの夏はポカラの街から
湖越しにヒマラヤを見てた
毎日毎日ただ眺めてた
朝は鮮やかなサリーを着た
10才くらいの女の子が売りに来る
ヒヨコマメのカレーとナンを買った
食べ終わると少し下って
ペワ湖の畔のカフェで
珈琲をテイクアウトし
いつものベンチで
葉を丸めただけの煙草
名前のわからない木々の木陰
風はなかったけれど涼しかった
俺は何やってんだろ?
そう自分に問いかけても
何の返答も思いつかない
あの夏はポカラの街から
湖越しにヒマラヤを見てた
毎日毎日ただ眺めてた
そんな夏もあった …
